Chinese Cultural Enrichment

ICS provides the following cultural enrichment classes this summer. Each culture subject will be covered in a week with a student presentation on each Friday. Students are required to listen and speak Chinese in these classes.

*中國飲食文化(Culture & History of Chinese Food):

This class will introduce the culture and history of Chinese food. Students will also have a chance to make some favorable authentic Chinese food in class.

*書法/國畫(Calligraphy and Chinese Brush Painting):

Different types of Calligraphy and Chinese Brush painting will be introduced to students. Students will also have hands-on-experiences on writing with brush pens in different materials and creating own brush paintings. An exhibition will be held on the last day of this program and students will demonstrate in front of parents and other participants.

*少林寺和少林功夫(Shaolin Temple & Shaolin Kung Fu):

Shaolin Kung Fu and the stories of Shaolin Temple will be introduced by a Shaolin monk. Students will hear about the life in Shaolin Temple too! Students can demonstrate Shaolin Kung Fu at the end of the camp.

*中華節慶: 元宵節(燈節)(Chinese Holiday: Lantern Festival):

In this class, students will learn everything about Chinese Lantern Festival. Students will also have a chance to make lanterns, rice balls, and play lantern riddles.

*雙簧/數來寶(Little Theater: Shuang Huang & Shu-Lai-Bao):

Shuang Huang is a two-man comedy show and Shu Lai Bao is a rhythmic Storytelling to clapper accompaniment. In this class, students will have a chance to learn the history and the art of Shuang Huang and Shu Lai--Bao. Students will also participate in the performance.

*中華棋藝: 麻將/象棋(Ma-Jiang & Chinese Chess):

Student will learn the origin and history of Ma-Jiang and Chinese Chess. They will also learn how to play the games. A contest will be held and winners can get prizes.

*民俗體育: 中國童玩(Chinese Traditional Games & Toys):

Students will learn how to play some traditional Chinese games and toys. The history and story of these games and toys will also be introduced.

*串珠編結摺紙之美(The Art of Chinese Beading, Knotting, and Paper Craft):

Students will learn the history and techniques of the traditional Chinese Arts in beading, knotting, and paper craft which including paper folding and cutting. Students will also be able to do a presentation to explain their art work.
